Hey everyone, hope you’re having an incredible day today. Today, we’re going to make a special dish, kare-kare. One of my favorites food recipes. For mine, I’m gonna make it a bit unique. This will be really delicious.

Kare-Kare is one of the most popular of recent trending foods in the world. It is easy, it’s fast, it tastes yummy. It is enjoyed by millions daily. They’re fine and they look wonderful. Kare-Kare is something which I’ve loved my entire life.

Book your Hotel in Kare online. Kare Kare is a type of Filipino stew with a rich and thick peanut sauce. It is a popular dish in the Philippines served during special occasions. The traditional recipe is composed of ox tail.

To get started with this recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can cook kare-kare using 16 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Kare-Kare:
  1. Get 1 1/2 kilo ox tail or Short beef ribs. I used beef ribs in these recipe
  2. Take 1 cup unsalted peanut butter
  3. Get 1/4 cup ground toasted rice
  4. Make ready 1 red onions (diced)
  5. Make ready 1 whole garlic (minced)
  6. Get 1/4 cup annatto seeds (soaked in ½ cup boiling water)
  7. Get 2 tbsp brown sugar
  8. Make ready 5 cups beef stock
  9. Prepare 5 grams Salt
  10. Prepare flavored oil (vegetable, canola, etc)
  11. Take ground black pepper
  12. Take Bagoong (fermented shrimp paste)
  13. Take Vegetables Ingredients:
  14. Take 4 pcs. eggplant (sliced)
  15. Prepare 2 bundle string beans (sliced)
  16. Prepare 2 bunch Baby Bok Choy

Add onions and garlic and cook until limp and aromatic. Add oxtail and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned. Kare kare works with meat, fish, tofu, seafood as well as vegetables. In fact, you can make it a vegetarian-friendly recipe if you are on your way to cutting out meat from your diet (like me).

Instructions to make Kare-Kare:
  1. In a pot add oil and sauté onion and garlic, once onions turn translucent remove then set it aside.
  2. Now using the same pot add beef ribs then brown all sides.
  3. Add the sauteed onion and garlic back to the pot. Then pour the beef stock and a cup of water into the pot then bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 1.5 hours or until meat is tender (Add water if needed).
  4. Turn of the heat then remove the beef ribs from the pot and leaving all the liquid, set beef ribs aside.
  5. Add sugar, ground toasted rice, peanut butter and water from soaked annatto seeds into the pot then mix thoroughly until it’s even in consistency. Turn on the heat to medium then let it boil.
  6. Once sauce is boiling, turn heat to low then add the beef ribs and simmer for 15 minutes. Season with a dash of salt and freshly ground pepper.
  7. Now cook the vegetables separately by blanching string beans, eggplants and bok choy.
  8. Pour stew on a deep bowl and add cooked vegetables on the side. Serve with bagoong.

Kare kare works with meat, fish, tofu, seafood as well as vegetables. In fact, you can make it a vegetarian-friendly recipe if you are on your way to cutting out meat from your diet (like me). However, the traditional Filipino kare kare stew calls for oxtail. Again, feel free to swap the oxtail with a vegetarian substitute. The thick peanut sauce will add just the right amount of flavour you.
